The Financial Accounting (FI) module of the SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solution is designed to meet all the financial and accounting-related needs of a business. It works integrated with many other SAP modules, such as Materials Management (MM), Sales and Distribution (SD), Production Planning (PP) and Human Resources (HR). By providing real-time access to financial information, it enables managers to make quick decisions and act correctly on strategic planning.

SAP Financial Accounting covers the following processes:

General Ledger Accounting: The area in which all of a business's accounting records are kept and reported.

Accounts Receivable: Working integrated with SAP's Sales and Distribution (SD) module, the area in which customer-related records are created and reports are produced.

Accounts Payable: Working integrated with SAP's Materials Management (MM) module, the area in which vendor-related records are created and reports are produced.

Asset Accounting: The sub-module that automates operations such as depreciation runs and cost calculation across the life cycle of fixed assets, from acquisition to retirement, and reports the resulting data.

Special Ledgers: With this sub-module, businesses keep the accounts and reports that meet special needs falling outside the standard application content.

Funds Management: Used to help businesses use their resources effectively, plan correctly in the right place, control actual transactions against budgets and support management decisions.

Travel Management: The area covering the planning, recording and tracking of business travel expenses, together with the related reporting.
